What is the difference between the flower and a full hood?
Apart from its appearance, I mean. When would I want to use a lens hood instead of flowers one of which is the same length all over? Or vice versa?
A flower "or" petal hood is designed for a specific objective a front where the elements do not zoom or rotate while focusing. Do not block the corners of the image in the photo, while providing maximum shade for the rest of the lens. A generic rubber hood is still better than nothing, but can be used on any target in that fit. Just make sure that the hood will not make the corners of bullet image. Many lenses that rotate when zooming or focusing have a standard round bell.
