How to make resin at home for school project?
My 8yr has finished making a mummy (my childhood Barbie doll wrapped in layers of tea stained linen strips) for an up and coming project and needs something that looks like resin (as they did back in Pharaoh’s time). I thought of making glue and then trying to colour it brown but does anyone have an idea what would make it look more authentic and similar in look to resin?
I think you may be talking about *natural* resin, not the more common synthetic resins available these days (clear, or colored).
Natural resins are made from tree sap, etc., and are thick and orangey-brown in color (usually transparent, I think).

Most of mummies weren’t “covered” with resin after the wrapping was complete (the resin was used as an adhesive to hold the wrappings on and then stiffen some)…here are pics of “mummies” to check that out:

If you just want to stiffen the tea-stained linen strips and add a bit more brownish or other tone, you could just tint permanent white glue (Elmers GlueAll, e.g.) with brown or orange acrylic paint, then apply that thickly (should dry translucent at least, and also stiffen the linen wrapping).
Or you could use any other clear “finish” or varnish you happen to have around (polyurethane, clear fingernail polish, Mop ‘N Glo or other acrylic floor polishes, etc.) and tint them to apply for probably a more transparent color.
