Celiac testing without a referral?
A few years ago, I had allergy testing done and based on an extensive symptom profile, it was suggested that I should be tested for Celiac. I took the request back to my primary physician and got pooh-poohed by everyone in the practice (I suspect that it’s primarily because I’m not underweight).
I don’t eat much wheat gluten just because I tend to prefer rice-based products. That, and I’ve been living with a variety of symptoms all my life and I’ve just dealt with them. So I just shrugged it off and went on with my life.
Now I have some more severe symptoms that are also attributable to Celiac and I asked about testing. Again, I got blown off and they ran other blood panels instead. I was told that there was no explanation for the symptoms, everything looked normal.
So, is it fair to assume that if you aren’t underweight that you can’t possible have Celiac? Also, are there any labs where you can just walk in and get tested without a referral?
First, I suggest you are talking to the wrong people. It sounds like you have some nutritional things going on that doctors are not trained to deal with. I’m not surprised that you got treated the way you did at the doctor’s office. The typical allergy tests done are not very accurate and you need some different kinds of testing done to determine what is going on. You need to find a practitioner that understands QRA testing. They can test you for the gluten issue.
Being under weight is not enough information to determine whether or not you have a celiac problem. The QRA person can test that specifically to determine if there is an issue. You don’t need blood tests for that. You may also want to get tested for parasites. That is a very common thing in Americans that eat the SAD diet. The SAD diet is the standard American diet. The Therapist can also help you with getting on a good diet.
