What's behind the Place de la Concorde, Paris?
The Place de la Concorde is the largest square in Paris, with a long history hidden behind their beautiful sculptures, fountains and the obelisk. This plaza was built in honor of Louis XV, where a statue of the king on horseback was erected in the center, which acts as a connecting element and decoration. This statue covered the two main axes, North and South, with the prospect of title = "Real rue"> Royal Street and a planned bridge, east and west with the prospect of the 'Gardens of the Tuileries and the Champs Elysees. This was an architectural feat for the period in which it was built and was considered a great work of art. Unfortunately, the statue was destroyed during the French Revolution and instead created a terrible guillotine was used to decapitate more than 2,800 heads of the old regime 'members, among whom were Marie Antoinette Danton et Robespierre. At the end of the French Revolution finally recovered Square credit for its beauty and was re-christened as' Place de la Concorde, (the peace), the obelisk was later built in place of the statue is missing. In 1937 the square was classified as a historic monument.
La Place de la Concorde is located in the 8th arrondissement along the Seine and separates "Jardins des Tuileries from the beginning the Champs Elysees. The giant pink granite obelisk, which stands at its center is 3300 years, and was given as a gift to the French Republic in 1831, by the viceroy of Egypt, which took him out of the Temple of Thebes in Luxor.
Around the square foot eight statues representing eight different cities of France, Brest, Rouen, Lille, Strasbourg, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes and Marseille. In the extreme north and extreme south of the square lies' Fontaine des Fleuve "(Fountain of the Rivers) and the" Fontaine des Mers' (Source of the seas). Ornate polished stone bathtubs giant Saint-Nom with a similar effect to form marble fountains. The figures and ornaments were molds made of metal and painted with a specific method to imitate bronze, greenish, dark brown and gold.
In the northern perimeter square foot two massive twin buildings built by the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. One is the 'Hôtel de la Marine "and the other is the elegant' Hôtel a de Crillon 'of the great hotels of Paris, once the mansion of the Count de Crillon.
A curious, but spectacular took place on May 30, 1770 in place during the wedding celebrations of the Dauphin, the heir to the throne of the King of France and Duchess Marie Antoinette. As the fireworks were detonated to liven up the celebration, there was a fire sacrifice 133 during the panic that caused the rupture. This ill omen was to be the precursor of an unhappy marriage.
